Winneconne Elementary School Art Teacher Cathy Sundquist and Winneconne Public Library's Kelly Nelson had teamed up to create the Winston Alfred Original Hedgehog Artwork project. Some of the pieces were used for the Holiday Faire auction, some to display at the library and some were designated for a very special project at the Winneconne Elementary School.
The week of December 9th-13th, was a week designated to a penny drive fundraising competition between the Elementary School classes. Fifth Grade Student Kennedy Breeler organized the penny drive on behalf of the American Heart Association, and the grade that raised the most pennies would win the Hedgehog Artwork.
The First Grade Class won the contest and the total raised by the entire Elementary School reached $426!! The winning First Grade classes will rotate the two Winston Alfred Artwork pieces amongst their classrooms throughout the rest of the school year. Miss Sundquist then held a drawing from the First Grade names, to see who would be able to take the Hedgehog Artwork home in the spring. Those two lucky First Graders were Ellie Gilson & Wayden Murray.
The $426 was divided in half, with $213 benefiting the American Heart Association and $213 benefiting the Winneconne Elementary School Book Room! Well done, Elementary School Students!!
Miss Sundquist is shown with winners (L-R) Ellie Gilson and Wayden Murray. Congratulations!
